Welcoming LGBTQ+

UUC is a Welcoming Congregation, a Unitarian Universalist Association designation for congregations that ensure inclusive environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.

UUC was one of the first congregations to be designated as a Welcoming Congregation by the UUA in 1991. The congregation was recertified in 2025. Being welcoming means striving for radical inclusion and creating spaces that honor every part of our identities, backgrounds and experiences.

UUC has joined other Unitarian Universalist congregations in participation in St. Petersburg’s Pride Family Day and Pride Parade, Florida’s largest Pride celebration. UUC also takes part in Dunedin Pride, a week-long celebration of love, identity and community.

We love showing up for the various Pride events in Pinellas County! What a fun and meaningful way to get together with our friends and allies!

In 2025, UUC was a satellite site for Building Beloved Community Beyond the Binary, a national conference to create space and time where transgender people, allies, advocates and accomplices could explore, learn and grow, bear witness and be witnessed.

UUC hosts monthly meetings of PFLAG-Safety Harbor (https://www.pflagsafetyharbor.org/) and financially supports Equality Florida (https://www.eqfl.org/), the state’s largest civil rights organization for the LGBTQ+ community.
