WHAT IS IT?
The Memorial Garden of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga is a quiet section of the churchyard set aside as a place of reflection for remembering loved ones and for the interment of their ashes.
WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS OF ITS USE?
A. Church members, current contributing friends of the church, former church members, and members of their immediate families may have their ashes interred in the Memorial Garden. Exceptions to this policy can be granted by the Board of Trustees of the Church after receiving a recommendation on the requested exception from the Memorial Garden Committee. B. A memorial membership fee must be paid or arranged for prior to inclusion on the Memorial Plaque (located in Livingston Hall) or interment of ashes. C. The Memorial Plaque displays the name and date of birth and death of each person memorialized. D. Permanent records are maintained and include the information on theMemorial Plaque as well as standard biographical information (when provided) for historical and family use. E. Arrangements for the details of interment must be made with the Memorial Garden Committee. If the family desires an interment service in the Memorial Garden, it should consider possibly limiting the number of attendees due to space constraints and the traffic noise from the nearby highway. The church will not assume responsibility for the storage of ashes. Family participation is assumed in preparation for interment. Our UUCC Minister must be contacted directly by the family should his or her services be requested at the interment service. F. Ashes must be buried in a biodegradable container and are not recoverable. This container is available from the Memorial Garden Committee. Although no marker is placed on the site of the interred ashes, a record is kept indicating that site.
HOW WILL IT BE SUPPORTED?[singlepic id=565 w=320 h=240 float=right]
B. Preplanning is available and a Certificate of Memorial & Interment Rights may be purchased at any time, representing a prepayment of the memorial fee. The certificate may be transferred to other members of a person's immediate family or redeemed at face value upon six months written notice to the Memorial Garden Committee. Exceptions to the policy regarding transfer of a Certificate of Memorial & Interment Rights can be granted by the Board of Trustees of the church after receiving a recommendation on the requested exception from the Memorial Garden Committee.
C. The fee is established by action of the church’s Board of Trustees upon recommendation of the Memorial Garden Committee.
D. Financial contributions in support of the Memorial Garden are gratefully accepted and duly recorded. Contributions should be designated specifically to the Memorial Garden of the UUCC may be considered “in lieu of flowers” in memory of the deceased.
E. All funds received from Memorial Garden fees and contributions are recorded and utilized for purposes pertaining to the Garden. Such funds are kept in a separate account maintained by the Memorial Garden Committee Treasurer.
F. The Memorial Garden Committee provides quarterly reports of its actions, monies received and expended, and a copy of its bank statement to the Vice-President-Ways and Means of the church's Board of Trustees.

A. The use and maintenance of the Memorial Garden are under the exclusive control of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga and are administered by the Memorial Garden Committee. Members of the Memorial Garden Committee are appointed by the President of the Board of Trustees with approval of the Board. The Memorial Garden Committee has direct responsibility for upkeep of the garden, plaques, records, financial oversight, and garden policy. No individual shall acquire any right whatsoever with respect to the use or appearance of the Memorial Garden, the Memorial Plaque, or the permanent records.
B. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga, acting through the church trustees, may alter or relocate the Memorial Garden or Memorial Plaque whenever changes are deemed necessary.
C. The Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga, upon recommendation of the Memorial Garden Committee, shall from time to time adopt administrative rules and regulations pertaining to the use, appearance, maintenance, costs, improvements, and perpetuation of the Memorial Garden, the Memorial Plaque, and records.
D. The Memorial Garden landscaping is the responsibility of the Memorial Garden Committee and no additional flowers, potted plants, or statues will be permitted.
WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE CHURCH?
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga promises to maintain the Memorial Garden, Memorial Plaque, and records so long as the church exists.
